Welcome to Shine a Light on Metamora—a beloved holiday tradition that brings our community together each year on the Metamora Square. Join families, businesses, organizations, and groups as they sponsor and decorate live Christmas trees, creating a magical display that brightens the Square throughout the season. Each sponsorship includes a live tree and custom sponsor sign; just bring your lights and decorations to add your personal touch. The festivities begin with our cherished Tree Lighting Ceremony, where friends and neighbors gather to celebrate and illuminate the Square in the spirit of the holidays. Whether you’re returning or experiencing the event for the first time, Shine a Light on Metamora is the perfect way to share in the joy of the season and be part of a meaningful local tradition.

We are currently accepting sponsors for our FIFTH annual ‘Shine a Light on Metamora’ to be held in the Metamora Village Square. Our goal is to fill the Square with Christmas trees to make for a festive holiday season.

How it works: After signing up, a real tree will be reserved for you. Katie Garber, Village of Metamora Community Development Director, will contact you to confirm your participation. We will place the tree in the square at the designated time and provide a sign to display with the tree in your name. We will provide extension cords and plug in your tree. You will bring lights and decorations to decorate your tree.

To sponsor a tree, please complete the online registration and payment or paper form with cash or a check for $85.00 payable to Metamora Park District no later than Friday, November 6th, to ensure we have a sign to represent you. Your tree will not be reserved until we have received payment. Submit early, as the number of trees is limited.

We will be setting up trees on Monday, November 30th. You may begin decorating after all trees are set up on Monday, November 30th. Trees must be completed by noon on Saturday, December 5th, so we can shine a light at 5:00 p.m. that evening at the tree lighting ceremony.

Feedback from last year helped those organizing Shine a Light conclude that we should order taller, higher-grade trees to ensure all participants are happy with the tree provided. Because the trees ordered this year are higher quality and taller, the 2026 sponsorship cost is $85.00 per tree rather than $75.00 in past years.

Decorating may begin after all trees are set up on Mon., Nov. 30. Tree lighting will be Sat., Dec. 5 at 5PM. From Sat, Dec. 26 to Sun, Jan. 3, we ask that all decorations be removed. The Village of Metamora will remove trees.

Tree Decorating Service (optional)

Let Scattered Wishes (Metamora, Illinois) take the hassle out of your holiday season with their Tree Decorating Service for “Shine a Light on Metamora.” If you’d love to have a tree on the Square but don’t want to worry about decorating or end-of-season removal, Scattered Wishes will handle it all—transforming your tree into a beautiful, festive display.

For just $150, they’ll provide the decorations, lights, creative vision, and all the work. Already have your own lights and ornaments but prefer not to do the setup and takedown? They can do that too for only $75.
